Nylon vs. polyester: what's the difference?

The choice of fiber is the most crucial part of choosing a carpet. Nylon and polyester are two of the most popular fibers selected in the market today. Nylon vs. polyester

Nylon has an ultra-strength about it. It retains its look after heavy furniture has been moved off it. It will revert to its original shape. Polyester is what we call hydrophobic. This means that it won’t absorb liquid, so it is an excellent stain resistor. Nylon is absorbent, but it is usually treated with a chemical stain resistant that prevents it from absorbing the stain. Nylon is a little pricier than polyester.

So different carpet fibers have different strengths and quality levels. When comparing them, you want to make sure that you even out these qualities. So, for example, a high-quality polyester may be better than low-quality performing nylon when it comes to durability.

Understand that there are also sub-versions of carpeting. Polyester is made of recycled plastic bottles, and the environmental impact is greener for polyester than nylon. So nylon has a version of solution-dyed, where the dye is part of the manufacturing process instead of after it. When it is solution-dyed, this makes the fiber more stain-resistant and less susceptible to fading.
