How do I choose a good carpet?
Choosing a new carpet can be daunting. When you visit a carpet store, there are so many things to consider. You have so many choices: fiber, color, style, samples. It can get to be overwhelming. But, don't worry; Williams Carpet Inc. is here for you. Let us help you through the decision process and find just what you want and need.
Step 1
Let’s look at what your requirements are for your carpet. Here are some questions to consider: What size room are you carpeting? Is it big or small? Is it a bedroom or a living room? Does it have a lot of traffic or a little? Does it have any sunlight coming into it, or is it a dark room? How do you use the room? Do you need stain resistance? Does it need to be extra durable? Finally, how big is the budget that you have for this project? Answer these questions first.
Step 2
Now you want to research your carpet. Do you know the five primary fibers that manufacturers use? Nylon, Polyester, Triexta, Olefin, and Wool. Learn the characteristics of each fiber. Do they line up with what you are looking for? Your choice usually comes down to the fiber that best matches your needs. Finally, look at construction style: Berber? Cut and looped? Cut pile? Frieze? Saxony? Learn what these are.
Step 3
Next, and lastly, look at the quality of the carpet. Check the density of the carpet. See how closely the fibers are tufted together. The density for your home carpet should be about 3000. Check the sample card. If you bend it and see a lot of white space, ask the staff for an explanation.
